Certification - Professional Standards Board
RESNA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
Earning certification requires not only demonstration of a core knowledge in assistive technology, but also a requirement to follow RESNA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, which set forth the fundamental concepts for ethical practice. Violation of one or more can result in punitive action by the RESNA Professional Standards Board, who oversees the Certification Program.
Professional Standards Board
The Professional Standards Board provides oversight of RESNA's Certification Program. RESNA, by action of the Board of Directors, established the Professional Standards Board ("PSB") to govern the organization's professional certification program. In governing RESNA certification programs, PSB responsibilities include:
- defining and periodically revising the standards for the certification of individual AT service providers, including exam design, development and administration;
- monitoring the interpretation and application of these standards, and assuring correction and/or update as needed;
- establishing and periodically updating policy and mechanisms for evaluating and acting on complaints and appeals relative to the award, denial, suspension or revocation of certification;
- serving as the final decision-making body for appeals; and
- assuring maintenance of a registry of certified service providers.
