USAID and WHO launch Wheelchair Initiative at RESNA 2012

03 July, 2012

USAID and WHO launched the Wheelchair Service Training Package - Basic Level at RESNA 2012's Opening Ceremony on June 30, 2012. Internationally, an estimated 70 million people worldwide are wheelchair users, yet only 5-15% have access. People in developing countries often depend on wheelchair donations, but there is a shortage of trained health and rehabilitation professionals to ensure people with disabilities get a quality wheelchair. The main purpose of the training package is to develop the minimum skills and knowledge required by personnel involved in wheelchair service delivery.
