Inaccessible medical devices prevent individuals with disabilities from receiving and providing appropriate preventative and medical treatment. The Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Accessible Medical Instrumentation (RERC-AMI) in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Research Design and Disability Center (R 2D 2 Center) developed two versions of an instrument to measure the accessibility and usability of medical devices for patients and providers with disabilities. The need for such an instrument, the development process and the versions of the instrument are presented herein. Implications for use and future research are discussed.
