This figure is a photograph of the footrest switch with labels indicating several features. The original molded foot piece has a strap for holding in the subject's foot. The foot piece is attached to a thin plate of aluminum. That plat is attached, using a hinge, to a similar size plate that is attached to the wheelchair footrest mount. The hinge is about one third of the way from the back to the front and goes across the plates, allowing slight extension of the foot around the ankle joint. Below the fixed plate is the switch and a jack. The switch is activated when the movable plate is pressed forward, allowing a push rod attached to the movable plate to go through a hole in the fixed plate.
This should be in the right column.
