The Mount'n Mover, a mount for wheelchairs designed by RESNA member Dianne Goodwin of BlueSky Designs, is now playing a supporting role on the hit show NCIS: New Orleans. The product is mounted to the chair of Special Agent Patton Plame, played by Daryl Mitchell, an actor with paraplegia. The character uses the Mount'n Mover to hold his computer keyboard. It all started with a phone call from Stephen Noell, the prop master on the show.
In preparation for the show, the production crew visited a durable medical equipment supplier in New Orleans to look for a new wheelchair for the actor to use (they ended up using the actor’s personal chair). While there, they also inquired about a mount for his device. When reviewing the mounting options, they decided they needed something different that would fit the character better. “The character works in a high tech office, so they wanted something that looked more sleek and modern and had that ‘cool’ factor,” explained Dianne.
The prop master did some online research, discovered the
Mount’n Mover, and contacted BlueSky Designs. “We sent them the appropriate hardware and offered any support they needed,” said Dianne. “Stephen assured us that their highly talented and experienced team of property assistants would have no trouble mounting it on the chair. And they didn’t.”
Dianne has since heard from the production that the actor loves the mount. BlueSky Designs is hoping to connect with him and see if they can get a testimonial and perhaps some more photos. In the meantime, “NCIS: New Orleans” is now a bona fide hit for CBS, and it airs Tuesday at 9pm ET/8pm CT. Tune in to see the Mount’n Mover in action!
