Research

RESNA takes the position that any research that advances the health, independence and quality of life of individuals with disabilities through technology is aligned with RESNA's mission. As a result, research is a major focus of RESNA, and researchers constitute a vital component of our membership. We offer many opportunities for researchers to collaborate, share information with their peers, and stay up-to-date with what is happening in the field.

The Research Committee fosters the interaction between RESNA and the AT research community. The committee develops RESNA's research guidelines, works with the Assistive Technology Journal board to increase the quality and visibility of assistive technology research, and participates in organizing the research component of the annual conference.

RESNA's Guidelines and Priorities for Assistive Technology and Rehabilitation Research

These guidelines are intended for the research community and related stakeholders, including research-related funding agencies, researchers, designers and developers, evidenced-based practitioners and policy-makers. The guidelines were developed through a collaborative process that included input from the RESNA membership, research-related funding agencies, and other researchers in the field.

Assistive Technology Journal

Assistive Technology is an applied, scientific publication in the interdisciplinary field of technology for people with disabilities. The journal's purpose is to foster communication among individuals working in all aspects of the assistive technology arena including researchers, developers, clinicians, educators and consumers. The Journal considers papers on all assistive technology applications. RESNA members receive a free subscription to the Journal with their membership.  Please visit the Assistive Technology Journal section for more information about the editorial board and submission guidlines.

Annual Conference

RESNA’s annual conference includes multiple research platform and poster sessions, published conference proceedings, and a special track for NIDRR-funded Rehabilitation Engineering Research Centers and Training Centers.  The 2017 call for proposals has closed. The deadlines for 2018's Workshops, Instructional Proposals, Scientific Papers, and Student Scientific Papers will be posted when the committee decides this later in 2017. We also publish our past conference proceedings on our website.
