RESNA implemented a method to provide institutions the recognition needed to maintain standards required for its graduates to be deemed recipients of higher education or to achieve credentials for higher practice. This was launched in 2017 and includes several institutions of higher learning that are enhancing the field of Assistive Technology and Rehabilitation Engineering. The Committee on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Education (CoA-RATE) launched the curriculum last year.
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Board of Directors is composed of 16 members, who are elected by and from those serving as Commissioners. The Board is the accrediting body of CAAHEP that awards or denies accreditation after review of accreditation recommendations made by the Committees on Accreditation.
