July 23, 2024, Washington, DC – RESNA, the Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America, is announcing the results of their annual board election.
RESNA is the premier professional organization dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of people with disabilities through increasing access to technology solutions. RESNA advances the field by offering certification, continuing education, and professional development; developing assistive technology standards; promoting research and public policy; and sponsoring forums for the exchange of information and ideas to meet the needs of our multidisciplinary constituency. RESNA is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit membership association.
The new board officers who will start their term on August 1, 2024, are:
- President: Jim Lenker, PhD, OTR/L, RESNA Fellow (Buffalo, NY); Dr. Lenker is an Associate Professor within the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the University at Buffalo. He will serve a two-year term as President, and then move into the position of Immediate Past President.
- President-Elect: Rita Stanley, RESNA Fellow (Charlotte, NC); Ms. Stanley currently is a private consultant who served as Vice President of Government Relations for Sunrise Medical for approximately 38 years. She will serve a two-year term as President-Elect, and then move into the position of President.
- Secretary: Alisa Brownlee, ATP, CLIPP, CAPS, WSP (Philadelphia, PA); Ms. Brownlee is a Home Accessibility and Assistive Technology Specialist at ALS United Mid-Atlantic. She will serve a two-year term as Secretary of the Board.
- Immediate Past President: Carmen DiGiovine, PhD, ATP/SMS, RET, RESNA Fellow (Columbus, OH); Dr. DiGiovine is a clinical professor in the Occupational Therapy Division in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at The Ohio State University. He will become Immediate Past President after serving as President for the previous two years.
The following individuals were elected to a three-year term as board members:
- Krista Best, PhD (Quebec City, Canada); Dr. Best is an Assistant Professor within the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at Laval University.
- Julie Faieta, PhD (Pittsburgh, PA); Dr. Faieta is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Rehabilitation Science & Technology at the University of Pittsburgh. She was reelected for a second term.
- Marta Figueiredo, OTR/L, PgDip. EI/SI, NBCT, Prof.Doc.OT (Braga, Portugal); Marta Figueiredo is an Associate Professor at Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão (Portugal) in the Department of Social Policy and Action.
