The public comment period is the final stage for a RESNA position paper. This paper has been previously presented at the International Seating Symposium and reviewed by SIG members and other experts. Following the public comment period, the authors will review all comments and decide on any changes. After that, the paper will be submitted to the RESNA Board of Directors for approval.
A RESNA Position Paper on Clinical Practice is an official statement by the organization that, based on the consensus of experts and evidence summarizes current research and best-practice trends in relevant areas of Assistive Technology. These Position Papers on Clinical Practice, issued by the international professional organization, declare the necessity (medical and/or functional) of specific assistive technology devices and services under appropriate circumstances, and guide practitioners in decision making.
A RESNA Position Paper must be prepared in accordance with the specific guidelines and approval process as defined by the RESNA Board of Directors for Position Papers.
About this paper
Postural support in the lying orientation is a key element of 24-hour posture care management (PCM). This paper aims to educate and advocate for the appropriate use of lying posture care management (LPCM) by outlining the need for such intervention and providing appropriate definitions, current evidence, and best practices. This document has secondary purposes: to serve as an educational tool; to encourage practitioners to continue the development of LPCM interventions; to urge researchers to produce more and better-quality research; and to offer practitioners justification of funding in their practice and to make available evidence for policy decisions.
