FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North American (RESNA) seeks interested parties to serve on the Standards Committee on Floor and Ground Surfaces (GFS). The committee, which met five times from 1999 into 2000, has been reactivated by the RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board. The purpose of the GFS Committee will be to develop test methods for measuring surface characteristics of firmness and stability. This standard will provide builders, building and landscape architects, site planners, property owners, facility managers, and others with the objective information needed to install and maintain accessible indoor and outdoor surfaces. It would also provide a means to determine and compare the relative firmness and stability of ground and floor surface characteristics, providing greater user information on the accessibility of various surfaces at specific locations.
Consumers with disabilities, disability advocacy organizations, users of the standards, testing experts, researchers, consultants, manufacturers, and suppliers are sought to participate on the committee. Applications for the RESNA Standards Committee on Ground and Floor Surfaces can be downloaded from the RESNA website.
