The RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive Technologies met virtually and in-person during the CSUN Conferece in San Diego on February 29, 2012. Twenty-one people participated in the meeting and discussed cell phone accessibility for people with cognitive disabilities. Representatives included Nokia, Microsoft, Research in Motion, American Foundation for the Blind, people with cognitive disabilities, researchers, and several others.
The goal of the committee is to establish requirements for the universal design of products (assistive and mainstream technologies) used by people with cognitive impairment in order to increase access to this population. RESNA is a standards developing organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ANSI for the development of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards pertaining to assistive technology and other products for persons with disabilities.
