The primary purpose of the committee is to develop and maintain standards for wheelchair seating devices that are intended to provide postural support and/or tissue integrity management for individuals who use wheelchairs. The standard specifies test methods or methods of measurement for: vocabulary; the physical and mechanical characteristics; and static, impact and load strength testing of postural support devices.
RESNA is a standards developing organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The
RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ANSI for the development of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards pertaining to assistive technology and other products for persons with disabilities.
