Session Track: Smart Home Technologies
Abstract: Join us to explore how smart and adaptive tech solutions, paired with essential support, may improve independence and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. We will present our research on adapting a comprehensive service model, initially developed to deliver smart tech solutions to individuals with severe physical disabilities, to benefit a broader range of conditions. This model includes assessment and device trialing, leading to a detailed evaluation report with tailored tech recommendations. It also integrates a funding session with the state-designated Alternative Financing Program, documenting how the recommended tech is acquired. To ensure effective use, the model also includes tailored training. Through case studies, we will demonstrate how this holistic approach enhances technology adoption and client performance, highlighting the critical role of comprehensive support in unlocking the full potential of smart and adaptive tech solutions.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to identify key components of a comprehensive service model for smart and adaptive technology. Participants will be able to list key considerations when recommending smart and adaptive tech solutions for individuals with diverse disabilities. Participants will be able to identify at least two funding options for smart and adaptive tech solutions.
