Abstract: This session uncovers groundbreaking trends in emerging technologies within NIDILRR-funded assistive technology (AT) projects spanning four decades (1983-2023). Analyzing over 2,000 grants using keywords such as AI, IoT, VR/AR, and other innovations, we reveal a notable increase in funding for innovative AT solutions, particularly in recent years. Critical advances in mobility, hearing, and vision technologies highlight a growing focus on improving accessibility and inclusion. Attendees will gain actionable insights into aligning technology transfer (TT) models and strategies with these trends, empowering them to foster sustainable innovation and drive meaningful improvements in the lives of people with disabilities.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this session, participants will be able to identify key emerging technologies impacting assistive technology trends and their influence on funding priorities. Participants will be able to discuss potential adaptations in TT approaches to better integrate emerging technologies for effective, sustainable, and impactful AT solutions.
