Assistive technology professionals know firsthand how the right tech can help people with disabilities actively participate in their communities. But technology, though important, can’t help if the community does not support it. In this session, meet local heroes who are making an impact in greater New Orleans. Prepare to be inspired and enlightened by their stories of optimism, perseverance, and sheer grit. In addition, learn how assistive technology professionals can help by supporting disability-owned businesses and public efforts in their own communities.
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize barriers in your community that hinder the full participation of people with disabilities.
- Propose 2 ways assistive technology professionals can help communities become more inclusive.
- List up to 3 items in the public built environment that help people with disabilities participate in community life.
