3D printing allows for on-demand access to customized assistive technology (AT) devices for individuals with disabilities. The aim of 3D Adapt is for both the user and the clinician to problem-solve through the dilemma of searching both customized and pre-designed 3D devices from a curated list of AT devices from sharing platforms with an easy-to-use search and filter. Due to individual differences, such as hand or phone size, some models have the ability to be automatically customizable. After selecting and potentially customizing a device, the app will connect to an online 3D printing service or may be downloaded to 3D print the device by the user. The user is then encouraged to provide feedback on the device for others to be able to better evaluate the device they want to use. We will demonstrate how 3D Adapt connects individuals to customizable devices to increase independence and quality of life, targeted through data collection of content analysis, usability, and efficacy.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will learn how to search for and then modify common models of assistive devices that are 3D-designed, through a newly created app.
- Participants will reflect on a 3-step feasibility testing process for an app targeting users of 3D-printed assistive devices, as well as targeting clinicians recommending the devices.
