Working within the largest school district in the United States with children diagnosed with both cognitive and physical impairments is a challenge. Adding sophisticated AT to meet their communication needs adds to this complexity. With dedicated collaboration and implementation across disciplines, these students are finding success. Assistive technology should not be an individual endeavor but rather a fostering community of people dedicated to the success of the child with a new system. Danielle and Caitlin are the ideal interdisciplinary team, working as both AT Evaluators and treating therapists for the NYC Department of Education for over 10 years. In this Buzz Session, participants will hear of the successes and struggles of real AT and AAC interdisciplinary implementation from the Team’s cases, work through the challenges they are experiencing within their own practices and come away with practical tips and suggestions for success.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will identify key members of the team and the knowledge they offer to both evaluation and implementation of technology systems.
- Participants will identify an area of improvement for team collaboration
