The Canadian Survey on Disability found that over 80% of people with disabilities use assistive technology daily to improve their independence and Assistive Technologies are often marked up 300% to cover profitability. Makers Making Change, a program of Neil Squire, connects people with disabilities and disability professionals to makers, who can assist in fabricating assistive technologies from our open-source library of assistive technology. In our online library documents describe where to source parts, provide downloadable 3d printable files, and assembly instructions.
To bring affordable devices to more communities, we rely on volunteers and strong chapter leaders who help support people in their communities. In this session you will learn more about the Makers Making Change model and how you will be supported by staff to become a community chapter leader or volunteer.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to paraphrase Makers Making Change mission and identify all program goals.
- Participants will be able to explain four different chapter models.
- Participants will be able to explain how chapter leaders are using the Makers Making Change chapter model in their communities and professional practice.
- Participants will be able to describe at least four of the 160 devices currently from our opensource assistive devices library
