Abstract: Despite the effort of rehabilitation technology innovators, only a fraction of assistive technology (AT) solutions designed within the research space will ever make it to market. This yields a poor return on investment for AT research funding and limited support for those who are in need of AT’s. To address this need, the IMPACT Center has developed the NIDILRR Innovation Management System database (NIMS) which collates numerous demographic, organizational, and contextual factor datapoints on over 1.9K assistive technology innovation projects as they work toward Assistive Technology Tech Transfer (ATTT). NIMS has been expanded to encompass numerous entrepreneurial support organization related variables. In this session, we will provide in depth exploration into the data housed within NIMS and a live demonstration of the IMPACT dashboard, an interactive data display page designed for investigating innovation factors and their association with successful ATTT.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to describe the goals and general structure of the NIDILRR Innovation Management System (NIMS). Participants will be able to describe entrepreneurial support organization (ESO) types relative to assistive technology innovation support. Participants will be able to describe the Assistive Technology Tech Transfer (ATTT) pathway and markers of success along this trajectory.
