Title: AT for Healthy Aging
Speaker: Susan A. Redepenning, OTR/L, ATP
Abstract: Assistive Technology for Healthy Aging is a project we received a partnership grant for in MN for 2 years. In that time, we saw many people aged 65 and older who benefitted from assistive technology (AT) to stay living in a home of their own. Prior to the grant for 8 years, we had only seen about 5 people who were over 65 for assistive technology. It has become apparent to us now that many of the referrals did not come in as many people assume people over 65 cannot or will not want to learn to use AT. Through our grant work we now do know keys that are important, and that AT is needed, can be learned and is helpful to people as they age.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Value the importance of the assessment is in picking the right tools for AT to match the person's needs who is 65 and older.
- Describe what it looks like to be truly person-centered in AT working with the older adult.
- Describe what training and follow up are needed for the success of AT interventions for people over 65
