The Physical Therapists Community of Practice will present a draft position paper on Adaptive Cycling. RESNA members and others interested in the topic are invited to attend and share their thoughts and comments. This webinar is free, but registration is required. We are offering 0.1 IACET CEU for this webinar, pending Education Committee approval.
Benefits and Application of Adaptive Cycling
Adaptive cycling is a powerful tool for promoting physical activity, social inclusion, and independence among individuals with disabilities. This presentation explores the benefits, challenges, and applications of adaptive cycling across various populations, from special needs pediatric populations to adults with mobility impairments. This webinar highlights key barriers, including limited funding and accessibility, and advocates for policy changes to improve access and funding. This presentation offers a review of current research and expert recommendations that demonstrate the benefits adaptive cycling offers in relation to cardiovascular health, functional mobility, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. Additionally, this webinar will discuss the role that rehabilitation professionals can play in guiding equipment selection, safety considerations, and selecting customized adaptations to maximize participation in adaptive cycling. Attendees will gain practical insights into promoting adaptive cycling within their communities and clinical practices, and ideas to help support a more inclusive and active society.
