Statement from RESNA's President, Dr. Mary Ellen Buning on March 23, 2020
Stay Connected During COVID-19 Outbreak
Like you, we at RESNA have been watching the news around the escalating impact of COVID-19. We understand there is a lot of fear and uncertainty right now, and wanted to reach out to remind our community that we are all in this together, and we are here to support one another.
Resources
RESNA members and the non-member community have access to AT Forum Listserv (AT-FORUM). AT-FORUM is a non-moderated discussion tool. We encourage you to use the tool to stay connected to other assistive technology professionals. Through the forum, you can ask questions, share solutions from your experience with our current environment, identify resources, and help fellow AT professionals solve problems.
We are monitoring things closely and working with our volunteers and staff to identify new resources and information that may be helpful to you. We have started a webpage devoted to COVID-19 updates. Please click here to view. If you have any resources that would help the Assistive Technology community, please send them to info@resna.org.
Advocacy
Led by NCART, the Clinician Task Force, and NRRTs, we are pursuing specific “remote” guidance from CMS as it applies to complex rehab wheelchair and seating evaluations. We are participating in a work group that is developing suggestions and protocols. Rita Stanley, our Government Affairs Committee Chair, is our representative. We will keep you updated on this initiative.
Certification Testing
RESNA’s certification testing center, Prometric, has temporarily closed all centers in the US and Canada until April 15. You can still schedule exams starting after April 15. For updates, please visit the Prometric page at this link. If you have an exam scheduled between now and April 15, Prometric is reaching out to you to reschedule. You can also e-mail RESNA at info@resna.org for help rescheduling your exam.
Continuing Education On-Line
RESNA has several resources for accessing continuing education on-line.
- AT Journal Quizzes are a good source of continuing education, and everything’s on-line.
- Check out RESNA’s webinar archive as well.
- RESNA partners with several CEU providers to offer RESNA CEUs. Many have on-line offerings. Please see this page for more information.
- RESNA’s ATP On-Line Fundamentals course is now accepting registration for an on-line course starting April 28th. Click here for information.
Conference
The RESNA Annual Conference is July 7 – 10 in Arlington, Virginia. We are still hoping to hold the conference, but are monitoring events very closely. Please note that we have extended the Student Design Challenge deadline to May 15 due to university closures.
Office
For the health and safety of our team, RESNA staff is now working remotely. Rest assured, staff is working every day and is still available to answer your concerns or questions. You can e-mail info@resna.org or call (202) 367-1121. During this time, please do not snail mail certification or recertification applications to the office. Please scan and e-mail to the info box.
Innovation and resilience are common traits of assistive technology professionals. During this unprecedented time in our history, I know our community will respond with empathy, dedication and passion to help solve problems. Please know that RESNA is there with you. We will be staying in touch on a regular basis. Please let us know how else we can help you.
Sincerely,
Mary Ellen Buning, PhD, OT, ATP/SMS, RESNA Fellow
